Celebrating Ian Fraser's 100th birthday

December 18, 2017

At the Morning Service at Alva Parish Church yesterday (17th) the congregation celebrated Rev Dr Ian Fraser's birthday with a cake.

Ian is a major figure in the recent history of the church, his first appointment as a minister was as a worker/chaplain in industry during the war, working for a labourer's pay.

He also served as a minister in Arbroath and Rosyth before becoming the first Warden of Scottish Churches House in Dunblane.

Ten years in Geneva followed working with

the World Council of Churches from where he went to Selly Oaks Colleges in Birmingham as Director of the Department of Mission.

He retired to Gargunnock 35 years ago, and moved to Alva earlier this year.

The cake was made by 'Buttercream Dream' in Alva

Ian has written many books on Christianity and theology , and is also known as a hymn writer.  He is still writing, and has made many friends in his new home congregation.
